Dinner for Schmucks (2010)

Director: Jay Roach
Cinematographer: Jim Denault
Shot on: 35mm Film

Steve Carell
Paul Rudd
Jermaine Clement

Going into this film all I heard that it was another Steve Carell film and that it was ridiculously funny. Now anytime that anyone ever says that to me I think. yeah right and that its going to be crap. Well surprisingly enough it was actually funny.

Steve Carell isn't the protagonist like in 40 year old virgin whereas Paul Rudd is like in I love You Man which is a personal favourite of mine. The story itself is about successful business men all working for a large firm who invite idiots to dinner in order to make fun of them. Paul Rudd trying to break through to the next level of success in the company level 7 has made enough of an impression to have a chance at that life and hence needs to impress a big client at the dinner in order to make it. He runs down Steve Carell who is social awkward and intimidating on screen but at the same time funny and somewhat loveable. You do feel for him once the wackjob nutty guy aspect wares off and they reveal that hes is just a lonely hurt and broken man.

It was lovely to see Jermaine Clements as the sex crazed artist which I thought did a great job. But I cannot stand the same girl who I dont even know her name or could be bothered to look up but is from "The Flight of the Conchords" and several other films i keep seeing her in.

I found the movie to be quite funny and silly at times and overall well balanced even though you know that the good guys win and hes going to get the girl and your just waiting for the last 20 mins for it to happen. But it was still good.

Jennifers Body (2009)

Director: Karyn Kusama
Cinematographer: David Mullen

Megan Fox
Adam Brody
Amanda Seyfried

The success of transformers did two things, make me go out and but a transforming bumblebee toy that plays "whip it" and bring to the attention of the world Megan Fox. Surely it wouldn't be long before she played in another film cashing in both herself and the studios of her international success. Along comes Jennifer's Body.

I have to admit that at first i steered clear of what looked to be a bombshell of a movie. I know that old saying, never judge a book by its cover and once again i have been proven wrong. Other then a night with not much to do then watch a random movie there was not much motivating me to watch this other then why the hell not. Surprisingly it wasn't a bad flick.

A classic girl becomes possessed by a demon and need to keep killing in order stay young and beautiful story line, the film actually starts with and already insane young girl in a mental institute back telling the story of how she got there. personally i didn't like the continuous narrating leaving you to assume that your audience was a pack of imbeciles that couldn't follow the story line.

Of particular note was Adam Brody of OC fame who I thought was brought in as a Famous face along with Megan Fox to draw a crowd (upcoming spoiler) but in the end brought me some satisfaction in seeing him slaughtered in a pleasing manner with the very knife that started the whole thing. Another good triumphs over evil again.

Courtney Loves Violet finishes off the film. a personal favorite of mine from when I was that age adding a nice touch at the end.

Conclusion: Considering I thought that it would be a rubbish film I was quite pleased to see that I was wrong. The demonic fox was quite disturbing and makes you never want to walk into a forest with a sexy girl again. Compared to similar demon vampire like super spirit films i think they didn't go too over the top with the demon abilities and in the end delivered a decent genre film.
